Every two years, Crown’s Chairman’s Sustainability Awards recognize plants in our global network for their outstanding sustainability achievements in three categories: Economic, Environmental and Social. In 2016, facilities in Vietnam, Spain and the United Kingdom have been recognized for exemplary contributions to the Company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
- Our beverage can plant in Hanoi, Vietnam took home top honors in the Economic Sustainability Award category. Since 2014, the Hanoi facility has decreased energy usage per can by 13.8%, even as can production has increased by 18.2%. Its comprehensive effort included an innovative metering system to reduce electricity use and other unique improvements.
- The Environmental Sustainability Award was awarded to our beverage can facility in Agoncillo, Spain. The plant saved 535,000 tons of waste by repairing plastic pallets throughout the facility instead of disposing or replacing them. Engaging a repair company that hires disabled workers also allowed the plant to make a meaningful contribution to its local community.
- The Social Sustainability Award was earned by our CMB Engineering canmaking equipment facility in Shipley, United Kingdom. The plant was acknowledged for its employee safety program called “Cool To Be Safe,” which has helped reduce workplace injuries by more than 80% since 2012.
