‘Cans Get You Cooking’ Wins PRSA Silver Anvil Award
As a prominent member of the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) – the national trade association of metal and composite can manufacturing – we are proud to be a part of the association’s Cans Get You Cooking campaign. The campaign has generated a great deal of consumer interest and as a result, was recently recognized with the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) 2015 Silver Anvil Awards for Excellence. It has been extremely rewarding to work alongside an industry association that helps promote metal packaging while integrating healthy lifestyles for consumers.
Cans Get You Cooking is an ongoing program that was first launched during National Canned Food Month in February 2013. The campaign promotes the use of metal packaging for food by focusing on educating consumers about the nutritional benefits that canned food affords. Tips and recommendations for using canned foods in daily meals are provided through various media channels, such as an integrated website, social media, and the television talk-show The Chew on ABC.
By harvesting produce at the peak of freshness and immediately transporting the goods to canning facilities, canned foods are fresher than any other alternative packaged product. Canning also allows consumers the option for year-round consumption of otherwise seasonal produce. As the campaign continues to grow and bring about awareness of canned goods, the hope is that more consumers will be inclined to adopt a sustainable and nutritious lifestyle.
