Crown Hires Its 150th Veteran in the United States Through the Company’s Military Hiring Program
Philadelphia, PA – January 17, 2017.Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com), a leading supplier of metal packaging products worldwide, has hired its 150th veteran through its military hiring program, which was formalized in 2013. In its 125-year history, Crown has hired numerous military veterans around the world.
The program, which focuses on evaluating candidates with skill sets developed in the military that are transferrable to the civilian workplace, is promoted via the Company’s website. Crown also actively recruits candidates at different military bases around the country. Once a veteran is hired, he or she is assigned a mentor to facilitate their onboarding at Crown. The Company also uses a cloud-based internal communications platform that allows employees with military background to share their experiences at Crown.
“I have firsthand experience with the challenges that many veterans have when trying to rejoin the civilian world and find jobs that match their experience,” said Oscar Blanco, Human Resources Manager, CROWN Technology, retired U.S. Navy and coordinator of the program. "I’m proud to be able to leverage that unique perspective and support the identification and integration of talented, qualified veterans into the Crown community.”
One such veteran hire was Juan Medrano, Human Resources Manager. He joined Crown in June of 2015 after coming across a human resources position on a job board and visiting Crown’s website. “Crown has opened doors for me and other veterans and has kept its word when it comes to supporting military veterans joining the workforce,” Medrano explained.
Crown is also an active member of The Veteran Jobs Mission. The coalition is the leading private-sector solution addressing U.S. military veteran unemployment. Founded in 2011, the original goal for the 11 founding companies was to hire 100,000 veterans. Today, the coalition has more than 200 member companies working towards a goal of hiring 1 million veterans by 2020.
Crown has also obtained Military Friendly® status for 2017. Military Friendly®-designated organizations are in good federal standing and have met or exceeded benchmarks for recruitment, retention, advancement, support and job placement of veterans.
