Crown Holdings' IDEAL Closure Safeguards Tropicana Freshness and Quality in New Package

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) announced today that Tropicana has capped off its exciting new 1.75-liter PET carafe for Pure Premium(TM) orange juice with the innovative IDEAL(TM) Closure supplied by Crown's Metal Closures division. This technology combines the characteristics of metal and plastic to offer barrier performance and accommodate easier opening.

The IDEAL(TM) Closure is a unique hybrid of a metal disk -- designed to guard against oxygen ingress -- and a plastic band. The plastic exterior is consumer friendly with an easy grip feature, plus a tamper evident "drop down" band which breaks before the seal is broken. Opening requires less removal torque than standard closures due to decreased friction between the closure liner and container finish.

The closure's plastisol lined metal disc is highly decorated and provides seal integrity with superior barrier performance. No secondary inner seal is required, allowing consumers to simply open the package and pour the product.

To accommodate the carafe's wide-mouth opening, Crown supplies the IDEAL(TM) Closure in a 63mm size. Typically used for sauces, jams, jellies or peanuts, Tropicana's Pure Premium(TM) orange juice is the first liquid product to use an IDEAL(TM) Closure of this diameter. Manufactured in a bright orange color, the closure coordinates perfectly with the rest of the Tropicana package.

The IDEAL(TM) Closure is suitable for multiple filling processes including hot fill, pasteurization, and retort and can be used on plastic or glass containers.
