From 16-17 September 2015, CROWN Aerosols and Specialty Packaging Europe, a business unit of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com),  is exhibiting innovative new solutions at  Packaging Innovations, the world’s premier packaging exhibition taking place at London’s iconic Olympia venue. Situated at stand B16, Crown representatives will be on hand to demonstrate a wide range of technologies and services for premium products, including wines & spirits, cosmetics, biscuits, confectionery, dry beverages or promotional items.

New for 2015

Front and center of the exhibition are the demonstrations of two recent innovations in package design. This marks the formal introduction of Crown’s capability to add LED lighting to packaging, adding a unique new look to products targeting consumers over the holiday season. Also on display will be Crown’s interactive GiftTag™ technology, which allows a video message to be embedded onto packaging using a QR code, enabling recipients to view personalised greetings via a cloud app on multiple mobile devices.

“We are no strangers to innovation, particularly as it relates to packaging for premium and promotional products,” explains Veronique Curulla, European Marketing Manager, CROWN Aerosols and Specialty Packaging Europe. “Visitors to the stand are able to view first-hand how Crown enhances specialty packaging in order to keep its customers’ brands at the forefront of design and functionality.”

Solutions

Recent solutions and capabilities on display at the booth include:

  • Crown’s Seated End™ technology, which renders a decorative tin’s bottom curl invisible when placed upon a flat surface due to a seated, rather than having a curled end. Targeted at the premium packaging market, such as wines, spirits, cigars and biscuits, this elegant solution gives a clean, premium look to any product.
  • HoloCrown™ - a new decorative technique whereby holographic images are stamped directly onto tins and utilize the diffraction of light from the design on the metal to create three-dimensional images that change both position and color; this technology ensures a unique focal point on-shelf, ultimately attracting greater consumer attention.
  • Tactile effects, which are achieved by using several techniques such as perforation, embossing and micro embossing and by applying various varnishes. Embossing and micro embossing involve raising part of any surface, so that they can be felt and seen and help focus consumers’ attention. Delicate perforations can create a stunning effect when light shines inside a package, and Crown’s wide range of varnishes offers unique decorative effects such as Gloss, Matt, Soft Touch, Pearlescent and Crackle - all of which are a simple way to appeal and engage consumers physically, giving packaging a luxurious and distinctive feel.

Working in Partnership

With customers also needing support at every step in the production process, Crown is showcasing its comprehensive array of technical and market services for brands, in order to give them a significant competitive edge and helping accelerate time to market. Crown is committed to ensuring that every customer is looked after in the best possible way, from the initial conception of a product to the final shelf-ready completed item. Taking this pledge to the highest level possible, Crown assigns every customer a dedicated team of design professionals, working in partnership to turn their visions into reality and spending the necessary time to fully understand their unique requirements.

“Crown’s broad scope of knowledge and technological applications allows us to fully customize a product to meet a customer’s complete and exacting standards prior to production,” Curulla explains. “This allows them to have full confidence when bringing a new product to market.”

Sustainability at Work

Brands are focusing on more sustainable packaging options and metal’s resistance to wear and tear can extend the lifespan of a tin, making it possible for consumers to reuse the packaging long after the original products are consumed.  Made from metal, Crown’s packaging is 100% recyclable and as metal recycles forever, with no loss of physical properties, it can be reused in the production of new packages with no degradation in quality. This makes metal packaging both a sustainable and cost effective resource.
