Qualities like taste, innovation, sustainability and performance are what matter most to consumers and brand owners – which is why aluminum packaging takes the lead in the beverage industry. The Open Up to Cans campaign, developed by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), showcases how the beverage can provides appealing, practical and beneficial features to brands and consumers alike. The campaign is supported by a series of research reports commissioned by the CMI between 2012 and 2015. 

The Value of Performance

Aluminum cans have a number of features that optimize beverage performance. Portability is one – according to the CMI survey, 67 percent of participants stated that cans are easier to carry and harder to damage than other formats. For brands, transport and mobility are also simplified with cans that are shatterproof, stackable and lightweight.

Cans are also popular because they allow beverages to chill at a faster rate – which in turn means that consumers can enjoy them quicker. The CMI survey found that 69 percent of consumers prefer aluminum cans specifically because of their ability to keep a drink cold.

Combined with their easy portability, cans are a priority for todays on-the-go consumers who look for quality, simplicity and an enriching experience.
